Vacation Bible School is a big event in the lives of the children in Lawrence each summer.
Children from kindergarten to 6th grade enjoy this week long, value-centered program along with a much-needed meal.
Most years as many as 10 churches have hosted programs, touching the lives of over 1,000 children and hundreds of teen and adult volunteers each summer.
Since 1975, the children of Lawrence have been participating in Vacation Bible School sponsored by Communities Together.
Children enjoy plunging into action-packed activities and faith-filled adventures as they learn more about how the Bible relates to their lives.
They enjoy the music, drama, crafts and all the fun throughout the week.
The organization provides all the curriculum materials for children and teachers, crafts and a big banner that each church displays ahead of time, announcing their VBS schedule.
Each church pays a portion of the cost for hosting VBS. The church’s portion is based on the number of children that the church anticipates participating in the program.
On average, each church saves about $795 each year over the cost of the entire program.
